Casco Antiguo Ciudad de Panamá

Y estoy en Panamá, vine invitado por mis buenos amigos de Estudio Térmica, con quienes he trabajado desde hace más de 10 años, una excelente oportunidad para reunirnos nuevamente y cambiar de ambiente, ya escribiré sobre eso más adelante.

En pocos días he visto muy poco, es una ciudad me parece muy ordenada y limpia, eficiente, por lo menos en la parte donde empecé a vivir y por donde me muevo, muchos altos edificios estilo Miami, una ciudad pequeña pero en rápido crecimiento, interesante para ir conociendo.

Pero uno de los primeros sitios donde me llevaron fue El Casco Antiguo, hasta ahora lo mejor y mi favorito, ubicado en una pequeña península en el centro de la actual Ciudad de Panamá, es el sitio donde fue trasladada la ciudad original luego de que fuera arrasada por piratas en el Siglo XVII, declarado en los años 90’s como Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco y en los últimos años rescatada y restaurada.

Es una zona hermosa, grandes edificios coloniales muy bien cuidados, donde funcionan hoteles y restaurantes de lujo, oficinas de gobierno, el Palacio de Gobierno y Teatro Nacional, la Presidencia de la República, el Palacio Bolívar, donde se realizó el famoso Congreso Anfictiónico de Panamá, congreso convocado por El Libertador Simón Bolívar con el objetivo de lograr la unión de todas las nuevas repúblicas de nuestra América, (un trabajo todavía pendiente), actualmente funciona allí la cancillería de Panamá.

Evidentemente la zona ha sufrido un grave caso de gentrificación, todavía se ven algunas de las antiguas casas de madera entre las nuevas mansiones restauradas, pero conserva algo de encanto popular que me atrae, y me hace olvidar las calles llenas de turistas gringos de fiesta.

Hay ricos restaurantes, hermosas iglesias, calles adoquinadas, los bordes con El Chorrillo, otro barrio muy conocido de Panamá, definitivamente un sitio al que voy a venir seguido, y seguiré explorando, a pesar de ser pocas manzanas es muy rico en cosas por descubrir.

I’m in Panamá, I was invited by my good friends from Estudio Térmica, with whom I have worked for more than 10 years, an excellent opportunity to meet again and a little change of environment, I will write about that later.

In a few days I have seen very little, it’s a city I find very neat and clean, efficient, at least in the part where I started to live and where I move, many tall Miami style buildings, a small but fast growing city, interesting to get to know.

But one of the first places where they took me was El Casco Antiguo (The Old Quarter), so far the best and my favorite, located on a small peninsula in the center of what is now Panama City, is the place where the original city was moved after it was devastated by pirates in the seventeenth century, declared in the 90’s as a World Heritage Site by Unesco and in recent years rescued and restored.

It is a beautiful area, large colonial buildings very well cared, where luxury hotels and restaurants work, government offices, the Government Palace and National Theater, the Presidency of the Republic, the Bolívar Palace, where the famous Amphictyonic Congress of Panamá was held, congress convened by El Libertador Simón Bolívar with the aim of achieving the union of all the new republics of our America, (a work still pending), currently operates the chancellery of Panamá.

Obviously the area has suffered a serious case of gentrification, you can still see some of the old wooden houses among the new restored mansions, but retains some popular charm that attracts me, and makes me forget the streets full of tourists gringos partying.

There are tasty restaurants, beautiful churches, cobbled streets, the edges with El Chorrillo, another well-known neighborhood of Panamá, definitely a place to come to and keep exploring, despite being just a few blocks, it’s very rich in things to discover.
